Countdown To Bass Camp

Bass CampRoy Vogt’s Fantasy Bass Boot Camp is just one month away and I still can’t believe I’m going!  Although I am obviously excited, and look forward to it, I must admit I’m a bit nervous.  I haven’t worked on the songs Roy sent us back in April as much as I wish I had.  So far I have one of the songs mostly down, but would like to add at least one more before I head off to Bass Camp.  Now, more than ever before I need to focus on the task at hand.

Fortunately things have finally begun to slow down at work for the summer, so I should have a bit more time to devote to my bass camp studies here in the final stretch.  The thing I am most worried about at this point is flying with my bass.  In truth, I still have to decide which one of my basses to bring.  I am hesitant to take one of my nicer basses in case anything happens, but at the same time I don’t want to take my crappiest one either.  Lately I’ve been flipping back and forth as to whether I prefer a Jazz or a P neck, so I need to make up my mind there first.  For the flight I have decided that I won’t be checking my bass in a hard case.  I plan to take it in a good, sturdy gig bag and hope that it makes it on the plane with me.  Worse case scenario is that I will check it at the gate.  I have done this before with strollers for my kids and things worked out fine, but a Bass is a bit more fragile that a stroller.  Guess I just have to take my chances.

While at bass camp I hope to write a couple posts on how things are going and promise to write a full recap upon my return.  I have never been to Nashville, and hope to get a chance to check out some of the sights as well.  Should be a great trip!

  1. Hi! I am going to bass camp next summer!!! I’ve gotten in touch with some of the campers who went last year and from what they tell me, it’s a very fun, relaxed atmosphere so don’t fret (no pun intended). When I go, I am going to check my bass in just in case. I purchased a locked SKB case for this purpose. From what I’ve seen on the testimonial video, the quality of your bass doesn’t seem to matter, and there doesn’t appear to be egos. Have a great time and please let me know how it goes!

  2. Hi Tracy, thanks for the comment. I have read some of the comments from last years camp and it does seem to be a very inviting atmosphere. Great to hear that you are planning to go next year, I will be sure to give you full rundown on how things go this year!
