I’ve been thinking a lot about the direction I want to take this summer in regards to my bass studies. I’m seriously considering putting Teach Me Bass Guitar on hold for a while in order to focus on Music Theory. A while back I signed up for the “Music Theory for Bass” course on the International Institute of Bassists website but failed to complete it due to lack of time. The course is very comprehensive, and I feel I would need to solely focus on it to get through it. At this point I have started looking at the materials again, thinking that this may be the route I want to take this summer. Putting Teach Me Bass Guitar on hold is not something I really want to do, but feel that if I want to get the most out of the last 7 lessons, I need to bring my music theory comprehension up to a higher level than it is currently.
As today is June 1st I plan to decide this weekend if this is the route that I want to go. If I do go the Music Theory route I want to be very regimented in regards to what I study, focusing mainly on the IIB materials. I may end up devoting a practice a week to TMBG review, just to keep that material fresh in my mind as well. As I write this I feel more and more like this is the path I am going to choose for the summer. Sometimes it is good to take a break from your normal routine and change things up a bit, it keeps things interesting.
