Tying Up Loose Ends
This week was about finishing up a few projects I’ve been putting off. I wanted to clear my plate, so to speak, so that I can give my full attention to Lesson 13 of Teach Me Bass Guitar. Some of it was writing related and some was theory related. My Recap of Lessons 9-12 was the main priority for me as were a couple of articles I owe to Bass Players United. Finishing up Essential Music Theory for Electric Bass was my other priority.
Putting It All Together
The final chapter in the Essential Theory book brings everything we learned In the first 5 chapters together as it discusses Chords and Chord Formulas. This part requires some memorization of the chord structures and provides an understanding of how these all work together. I must admit, I’m right at the edge of my comprehension here. I’ve read through the material several times and worked through some of the exercises, but I’m still not completely grasping it all. With luck I’ll be able to spend some time working through it this weekend and be ready to start on lesson 13 of TMBG on Monday, if not I may delay starting 13 a few more days. Having a decent understanding of music theory will help me grasp the concepts presented in TMBG faster, so I feel it is important to get this stuff under my belt now. My lack of understanding on some of the key concepts set me back a bit while working on Lesson 12 and I do not want to make the same mistake going forward. Time to hunker down and get my learnin’ hat on.
