Weekly Ramble 1/6/12

For the new year I decided to essentially restart Lesson 12 with a fresh set of eyes.  I really haven’t done much work on it in the last couple of weeks so I thought it would be good to start from scratch with the hopes of gaining a better understanding of the concepts presented.  I have a pretty good handle on the theory aspect of Lesson 12 now, which is part of what threw me the first time around.  I’ve already gone through the book as well as the stuff I transcribed, and hope to sit down and watch the DVD again tonight.  I feel like I’m in a better place now and have a more positive attitude going in than I did when I first tackled this lesson.  I’ve mostly been noodling around with my various basses as of late, playing along to my iTunes library, and working out of the Bass Aerobics book, so I am excited to start focusing back in on Teach Me Bass Guitar.  Trying to start the new year off right.

On a sad note, my Jazz Deluxe took a bit of a fall this week.  I had it on a stand and was moving some cables around and it just fell forward.  I could see it happening and I was right there but seemed to be frozen to it until I heard it hit the ground with the sound only an instrument makes when it is dropped.  Somehow it flipped around sideways on the way down and landed on the top horn and headstock before falling on its face.  It put a nice dent in the top of the horn as well as a smaller dent between the E & A tuners.  The paint didn’t chip out but you can see wood at the bottom of the dent.  Needless to say I’m a bit bummed about it.  I spent a bit of time researching a fix, but in the end decided it was more trouble that it was worth.  As they say, it gives the bass “Character”, or that “Road Worn” look.  I may slap a sticker over the dent if I happen to come upon the right one, for now I can live with it.  Talk about starting the year off with a bang!
