TMBG: Progress Report # 9 – Lesson 10, plus the IIB

This week I got off to a good start on Lesson 10 of Teach Me Bass Guitar.  I hope to get a full report out about it in the next week, but for now let me just say that I am really enjoying the finger funk!  This style of playing feels some much more natural to me than slap style.  Running through the exercises at 80bpm’s is no problem at all for me on this lesson.  Lesson 9 is still haunting me, as I continue to work on the tunes, but I feel like I am over the hump, so to speak.  My slapping skills have improved considerably in the last couple of weeks, and I am very happy to be moving on to new things.  Lesson 10 looks to be more up my alley, so I am really hoping that I can pick up the pace a bit in my development here.

On a side note, I have discovered the International Institute of Bassists website and decided to sign up for their 12 week Music Theory Course.  I’ve been looking for ways to improve my knowledge in this area and as that the cost is on $25, I figure what have got to lose.  So far the theory I have learned from Teach Me Bass Guitar has been great, but it has whetted my appetite for more, which I hope this course will provide.  You can expect me to start blogging more about the IIB, as well as my progress through the music theory course once it starts on April 4th.  I look forward to this new avenue of learning as well as exploring all that the IIB website has to offer.  With 10 more lessons of Teach Me Bass Guitar to work on, plus this music theory course, it looks to be a busy spring for me.  Be sure to check back here for all the details!
